When HollyBeth was young her mother would use cornmeal as an exfoliant. Years later her mother suggested adding grits to make an all over body scrub. HollyBeth added tupelo honey, Vitamin E and a tad of organic sweet almond oil and voila! an exfoliant and moisturizer that leaves your skin soft and smooth.

"Earth Day is Monday, so in honor of the occasion, I put together a few of my favorite organic/made with real fruit and veggies/good-enough-to-eat beauty products! While you probably shouldn’t actually consume any of these products, I can tell you two things. 1) You’ll want to. 2) If you do, it won’t kill you, because these babies are natural, non-toxic, chemical-free delights!
1) HollyBeth Organics Grits & Honey Scrub:
HollyBeth Anderson makes her yummy products in a fab Atlanta studio, and I’ve seen her in action in her kitchen. It literally looks like she’s baking something (measuring cups, mixing bowl, yummy smelling ingredients) until the very end when she pours the finished product into a jar instead of onto a plate."
"Finding a new product that really tickles your fancy is always a sweet spot in the day. Well, my latest is HollyBeth’s Grits & Honey Scrub.
Grits & Honey is a blend of organic corn meal, honey and organic sweet almond oil, resulting in the most magnificent scrub. I have tried many an exfoliant and, while there are many that I have liked, always go back to my simple-yet-effective milk and sugar concoction.
I have now seen the light with this fresh little scrub and may never go back to the homemade stuff. First off, it looks like something you could eat with a spoon, over ice cream or on oatmeal. Ok, I admit I tasted it – my sweet tooth takes over sometimes. Next, the consistency is so fabulous that not only does it make your skin super smooth, it feels really good to use to. Granular, yet super silky. It’s good.
Many exfoliants are made with very small particles of the exfoliating ingredient (crushed seeds, salt, sugar…). The corn meal used in Grits & Honey Scrub is larger particles, which actually ends up feeling a lot gentler on the skin. Less abrasive and smoother edged.
Honey has super healing and softening powers (try on chapped lips this winter for overnight healing) and really gets skin smoothed out. The sweet almond oil offers light hydration.
This scrub is for the face, but I used it on my whole body. Just couldn’t stop. Definitely my new organic cosmetic crush…"
Organic Beauty Talk:
"As soon as I saw HollyBeth’s Grits & Honey Scrub, I wanted it! I’ve eaten grits for breakfast and even had it with served for dinner under blackened fish (hmmm), but never in a beauty product for my face. Could I be experiencing a little southern comfort food on my skin for the very first time?!!
Inspired by the traditional breakfast foods of HollyBeth’s native South and her mother, this natural facial scrub gently renews skin by buffing dead skin and pollutants with organic corn meal while the honey moisturizes it. The scent is fresh and sweet and smells irresistible to eat. Yes, I admit it…I licked my lips and tasted the scrub…I did say it smelled irresistible! I also tried it on both wet and dry skin and it should definitely be used on wet skin, even with the honey consistency. I found the consistency to have a little separation on my finger tips but once on the face, it starts to be more uniform and spread well. My skin looks radiant, smooth, and soft. HollyBeth’s Grits & Honey Face Scrub is the perfect blend of luxury and down-home goodness!
Update added on May 24, 2012: The key to this seeing results with this scrub if you have blemish-prone skin is to use it daily…at least for me anyway. From the moment (right after I did this post, about 4 months ago) I started using it daily (every evening ONLY) after cleansing, and my skin has never been clearer. I experimented with how much to use and a pea-size amount does the trick. I don’t even get those stubborn hormonal blemishes anymore!"
